The Song of the Lark

Thea had often seen the desert sunrise, a lighthearted affair, where the sun springs out of bed and the world is golden in an instant. — Willa Cather, The Song of the Lark

My dream for this trip was to listen to the audiobook of The Song of the Lark by Willa Cather while sitting in the observation deck of an Amtrak while I watched the West Coast go by.

My dream came true! Los Angeles Union Station to Portland Union Station took about 30 hours, but time never seemed to drag. I loved watching the sun set over the Pacific and the landscape change from palm trees to evergreens. For most of this journey I was immersed in the words of Willa Cather:

First stop: LA to see my best friend, and her short-term foster dog, and a baby who is almost ready to meet the world.

Also, OOPS, I had to get out of LA during the Marathon!
