April Unplugged

I watched Before Sunrise and liked it even more than I remembered.

These films have been fantastic at making these characters feel real, and evolving in ways that feel so authentic I find myself forgetting this isn’t a documentary.

In 2025 I am chilled by how prescient the script was about tech. 23-year-old Jesse, in 1995, says his idea after weeks of looking out a train window was a public access TV show, shown worldwide, of little snippets of ordinary people in daily life. Uhhh I think he invented social media? Or at least, the view of social media 10 or so years ago when it was simply annoying and embarrassing to scroll over people posting pics of their lunch.

1995-era-Celine gave me chills when she said, 20 years ago, that media is trying to control our minds and that it’s the new gateway to fascism. She was so right, and if she were real, I imagine she’d be devastated with disappointment. (As I am.)

I do this every so often (and in the springtime apparently), but I am making a concerted effort to be off social media more.

A long walk and talk with a friend from 9th grade homeroom, but with a napping baby in tow:

April is National Poetry Month and I always try to observe:

The Sunday Philly Inquirer tends include a fun activity, ostensibly for kids. My kid is too young for the Make Your Own Mascot two-page spread, so I did it!

I cooked the recipe that I made so much 10 years ago, it put me off Siracha for … a decade. But I am back!
