My life is never boring.
The week began with rallying kiddos to adopt some garden beds and plant pollinator-friendly flowers.
Before / After:

I did pick up a nail in a tire that day. I usually take Patco commuter rail to/from work, but for special projects (like purchasing pollinator plants at a local nursery and transporting them to their new home) I can use my household’s single car some days.

I love that my job brings me to different community events and keeps me learning about Camden, NJ. Without a car, I’ve been patching together public transit, Lyft rides, bumming rides from friends, and walking. (I NEED YOU TO KNOW ABOUT CAMDEN LOOP!) The events are fun and worth it. And hey, I hit 10,000 steps eight out of the first 12 days of July 2025.

While waiting to get the car serviced, we had to keep ourselves entertained at home.
For one thing, it is Sunflower Season:

I hadn’t seen a single cucumber in my raised beds, and then I saw a fully ripe one?!

I have a birthday this month and I want to be able to eat a piece of birthday cake, but one that I would also serve to others. I’m keeping a low-fat diet after surgery, but also trying not to live off of “diet foods” or eat a ton of fake sugars. So every Saturday, I make a different low-fat cake recipe and rope in whoever is around me into a taste test. I’ve had more failures than successes, but this is why I’ve been practicing!

In this new chapter of my life, egg whites and applesauce and skim yogurt are my baking staples.
OK, so the wait for car service was almost two weeks. In the middle of this I rented a car for three days. Officially it’s for groceries, but we did make a family trip to Second Time Books.
Made some delightful finds for baby. We’ve been gifted some wonderful books, starting at the baby shower, but have read everything we have SOOOO many times. These were too cute to pass up, and also second-hand:

The other big news from Baby World is: WE HAVE ONE TOOTH!! I put blueberry puree in these oddly detailed jaw-shaped molds to celebrate:
