
We had a late April frost and then an early May heatwave, so the first TWO rounds of my sprouts for raised bed veggies were toast. I had to start over so many times it felt like I’d never get to eat out of my garden this summer.
Then came the “Sturgeon Moon,” and my county fair week — which is about harvest, isn’t it?
And I am seeing the fruits from the garden.

All of the goodness in the photo above came from plants I did not place in a bed this year. They all returned from last year. Sometimes I call them “volunteers.” Sometimes, “survivors.” Sometimes, “miracle.”

Last year, in a short and frantic lead-up to Fair, I gave away the dozens of babies my spider plant had. I decided to use the spider babies to promo our Open House again this year:
