This is just about the time when the sun waking me up before 6 a.m. starts to feel sinister, like a cruel master.
This is the point of summer when the heat and humidity are oppressive and I just want to hide in the shade with a book. Or lock myself indoors.
Mid-July is summer horror season. There, I said it!

We are in the midst of a dangerous heat wave that won’t seem to end; one of my coping strategies is to wake up very early and spend time outside before it really swelters. Then hide.

And this is how I had myself a little goth beach day. Sun woke me up at 5:45 a.m. I was at the edge of the ocean before 7:30 a.m., and at home for a shower and a post-beach-nap by noon.

Sigh. This day was a week ago, and frankly the last time I have enjoyed being outside. No end in sight to the heat. Send vampire novels.
